hi,i just purchased a 97 cobra 4.6.until this i have been a devoted 302,351 fan. car is mostly stock,with cats removed,and some type of chip.i was told it had bigger injectors,but they are F55E-A2E,which i believe are stock.he also said he thought it has a high volume fuel pump.it runs great,but smells like gas a lot.is it because the cats are gone,the chip,fuel pump,bad regulator?i could use some help in figuring this thing out.thanks.

well its all because you dont have cats. The smell will go away as soon as you get used to it!

yeah just breathe in real deap and pritty soon you might wake up crashed in a ditch from carbon monoxid posioning lol. it might be from the cats but i would check all the plugs and see about checking your A/F ratio to bee sure. could be running to rich.

well the reason I say its the cats is beacuse I had my offroad X out on and that was the first thing I noticed was the gas smell so I turned around and had him check the A/F and all was fine. Just not burning the extra fumes that you normally wouldnt smell with cats.

I don't think that is normal to smell gas. Even w/o cats. They shouldn't have that much affect on the smell of fuel should they?

Man that sucks. Is it just a slight fuel smell that you get JD or is it...like...real stinky so it gets into the interior and stuff?

I have the same thing goin on with my car and i know it's from taking off the cats, cuz right after i got the o/r x on i started it and it smelt like raw exaust. It will most likely smoke a little to when taking off but i think that is normal when taking off the cats (at least mine does anyways).

It's running a little rich I'm sure without the cats on there.
