They were probably "arcing". It's when electrical current from the wires will arc with a metal surface in the engine compartment (or possible the engine itself). It's not a good thing.

Yeah this wasn't on the mustang, but on my previous car I thought the tranny was goin bad because the car would buck in a certain RPM. I took it to a shop and they told me that the spark plug wires were...ahhh can't think of the word for it. Anyways they were leaking some voltage.

same here...things have been a little slugish lately then i put 93 octane and and it picked up.....now a couple weeks later it has just dosent feel right. I replaced plugs a year ago so would hope they would still be good.
Any ideas???

arcing can be funny. I've had some instructors at my school show me how you can use a spark to burn holes through paper and stuff... and how HUGE You can make sparks with the right apparatus, lmao

The carbon buildup will increase your compression ratio, and cause it to run better on higher octane fuel.
