How do gears reduce dyno numbers?

How do gears reduce dyno numbers?
And is there a conversion? I have heard this often and even when i had mine dynoed, the tuner said, "well remember, you have 410s in there as well". Can someone explain how this affects the numbers? Is the dyno "calibrated" to a certain gear ratio? 3.27, 2.73, 3.55? I dont think this has been covered eventhough it is sorta a gear question.

RE: How do gears reduce dyno numbers?
ive seen a dyno comparison from bone stock to just gears and it differed by like 1-3 torque and maybe no difference in hp i know it was in a recent 5.0 magazine maybe 3 or 4 months ago

more teeth meshing in numerically higher gear ratios is as good an explanation as I've ever heard.

No more than 5 WHP, probably like 2-3 with 4.10s compared to 3.27s

It shouldn't have any effect on it. The only things a gear does, is speed your acceleration through the power band, and when you shift put you more into the gear on the next gear, and when they dyno the car it should be in 4th gear starting from a low rpm... It's like this... when you exhale, no matter how hard you exhale you exhale the same amount of air from your lungs regardless of how hard you blow. It's just how the power is applied, it won't add nor subtract hp.
