The problem with an Auto and the IAC mod is it's hard to find a sweet spot for the gasket that wont stall it and still drops the idle. Auto's are harder because of the constant load.
I still think you should do it right and have a tuner adjust the decay rate. But it's not a bad temp fix. Here's when I had mine done.

Yeah my car is manual not auto so it worked good for now, started up cold this morning and idled right at 800rpms with a more crisp feeling throttle responce, keep in mind my car is a stock npi motor with only cai and off road x and flowmasters.
