Default 96 gt

I recently bought a 96 gt. Is the cobra block the same as the gt? If so can the cobra parts be swapped for the gt parts namely the 4v heads. Also the 4.6 seem to cost a considerable amount more than the 5.0 parts and engines. Given that the 95 ans 96 are more or less identical would it be best to start off with a motor swap. I want to make the right decision now so I will have more options later.

4valve conversion is very expensive. But yes their the same blocks. Your best bet is either a pi swap or a new edge 4.6 with ported heads.

the 302 is the most common engine used, thats why parts are so cheap for it. the 4.6 makes more power than the stock 5.0. to make some good power gains either swap to a 99+ engine or do a pi swap and you will have more power than a 99+

The 4v swap is spendy. If I had an npi gt I would defanitely do a pi swap. I probably would get some stock pi heads, get them ported and polished, get some stage 1 cams and get all the bolt-ons, then get some juice. Rigth there you have a low 12 second car. Maybe 5 grand....

I guess a better question would be should I build on what I have or look to start fresh with something else? The car has around 100k on it. I don't want to put a bunch of mods on the engine and find out there are limited options for it.

Thanks I am new to Mustangs and didn't want to dump a bunch of money in an engine if it had limits. It sounds like there is plenty I can do to the motor I have.

How much are you looking to spend? If you are looking for a new block there are several reputable companies out there. Forged is the way to go if you are going to run high boost.
