The trick to long tube headers is to take the whole damn engine out.
Bah, its not that bad. You just need to get the car REALLY high up, and then unbolt the motor mounts and raise it a little.

Let me add that I think it is great that you and your wife can actually carry on a solid conversation about your cars, and that she seems to be as much into it as your are. You are a blessed man, no matter what you end up doing with either car.

Well I kinda cheated it was really easy to put them on because I had the engine out of the car already.... but I did take the engine/transmission out of the car replaced the rear main seal and back in and running in 11 hours. That is what sucks about long tube headers, you can't take the engine off of the transmission anymore the whole things coming out.

Why don't you just put LTs on the bullitt?
not legal for any street driven vehicle in the United States that came with smog equipment...

Yea headers are some crazy ****.... I went through 3 sets because they all just kept rusting on me. After the secound one I just paid to have them done. The First tie I almost dropped the motor from 8 feet in the air!

yea I've heard the horrors of installing LT's.... such as having to jack the motor out of the car, and such.... would it be harder on an auto?

He is gonna put them on his GT....

If you don't have smog testing, who cares?

More importantly, if you can pay some guy 50 bucks for a 7 dollar inspection and get a tag anyway, who cares

just wait....bet you that in 5 years, the EPA will mandate that all cars will have to be inspected....they already use CA smog laws as federal law...

Ok, here's the plan: I plan on dropping the "k" on the GT this time for the LT's. SLP's LT Is stainless and ceramic coated inside and out (ergo, the $800. price) so they should last the life of the car (and they have egr fitting and O2 sockets) which is all I need. Percy's XX carbon fiber gaskets are bullet-proof, no leaks after a year, with many hwy trips. I figure now after driving with the X a year it's safe to put on LT's without grounding on my road. The shorties on my car are ceramic coated and are holding up great, and despite what you believe, they have helped my car tremendously (comparing to manifolds) they are a freebie add-on on the Bullitt. And, I've got the install down on shorties after doing it once, As for the Bullitt intake, it will stay with the Bullitt, it's her baby. She want's all original parts put away in the attic so it can restored to original if it becomes collectable. In a way, this maneuver will preserve the original parts from deteriorating.

John
