Default Transmission/ Clutch noise

98 GT motorsport clutch, Whenever I let out on the clutch it seems to make a knock, it only knocks once between shifting gears, if I let out on the clutch slowly it does not knock, but another thing is if I am in gear and get off the throttle completely then hit the throttle again it will produce the same knock. It is not hurting performance of the car but gets annoying. I think it might be something with the throwout bearing but I have not looked into it. ANy suggestions to what you guys think would be greatly appreciated!!

I think you might have a little play in the transmission mounts. It's probably just the transmission jolting around due to inertia.

I would believe that if it was that then it would be more serious and effecting the performance b/c if the transmission moves then it going to put the driveshaft out of alignment and thats going to make some vibration. Or at least I would think

it sounds like the natural looseness of a stang. your tranny mount might be worn or broke. check to see if it is intact by jacking up tranny a tiny bit to see if it is attahed to the mount still. If your worried about the thunk, then have a ride in a 1.5-04 gt. its horrific in ours

My tranny also clunks around if I jerk the throttle too much, but not in between every shift. You might also want to check the U joints in the driveshaft.

That might be it, I didnt know it was common in mustangs. I will look at it this week-end I suppose. Thanks for everything and if you have any other info or say so just reply again.

check your motor mounts. I had to loosen those so the engine could move more to remove/install my tranny for my clutch job. One of them I thought was tight and settled and made a similar sound. Just have a look at the nut on each motor mount and crank um down.
