What is a spun bearing? He says the motor was completly rebuilt, is it prone to spinning the same bearing again?

im not sure exactly what is a spun bearing, but i know it can come from over reving ur engine to fast, like from down****ing into a wrong gear, im guessing its the bearing in between the rod an the crank maybe, idk.

Is that uber-gay hood really necessary? Looks totally stupid and appears to serve no purpose.

Bearings are the thing that connect the rod to your crankshaft. They have little pins on them that fit into slots on the rod. If you spin a bearing those little pins are gone and the bearing is SPINNING. It causes the rod to grind a little putting some metal into your oil as well as a lot of piston shake and rattle causing low oil pressure and it just snowballs from there...

Spun bearing = rebuild the motor.

When someone refers to a spun bearing it usually means it is one of the bearings on your crankshaft. They are very smooth rings that seat in the block of your engine and your crank sets in one half and then the other half of the bearing is tightened down and then torqued. When the phrase you have a spun bearing is used it means that the torque of the bolts loosend up or the metal of the bearing got weak and instead of staying completly still and not turning with the crank shaft it starts turning and creating friction which we all know friction is a very bad thing in an engine. A rebuilt engine should of been machined to fit a slightly bigger ring where the outer diameter is larger but the inner diameter of the ring is still the same size to fit around the shaft of the crank. Hope this helped you answer your question.
