A properly prepared iron block with Forged internals, balanced, girdle and billit oil pump will handle 7-800 HP. Its actually a pretty strong piece, good luck.

I have never heard of tungsten carbide rods ect..... I only know of Aluminium, Titanium (very rare), Steel, Forged steel, Billit steel etc. To my knowledge the stock rods are made of some sort of compressed powder. But to say tungsten carbide? how the hell are we supposed to know what your talking about. Never heard of that, sounds more like a golf club than a connecting rod.

Tungsten carbide is one of the hardest materials around, it's commonly used for tools which need high hardness, like drill bits or taps. Since the rotating assembly doesn't have to absorb energy (and you wouldn't want it to, wastes power), you can go with a high hardness, high stregth, not very ductile material. However, he was just saying that because of it's stregth, not because it would be good to use in the assembly, it's very heavy, almost 2 twice as dense as steel.

Ideally, all of your internals would be forged aluminum to keep the rotating mass down. Then you can spin it up higher . But thats where the big bucks come in, building a motor that can handle a lot of power or a lot of RPM is VERY expensive. For a 302, a good set of racing forged aluminum rods and pistons will cost you in the neighborhood of $2000. Be ready to spend some cash triisomy.

great.. i'm sitting in my manufaturing and processing materials class, and reading to MF's to get my mind off of this stuff, and now it comes back to bite me in the ***[:@] lol, tungsten carbide is some strong stuff, but idk if someone has used it before... if you got the money, you could be the first!

I was under the impression of 800... It's a cast iron block, definitely will absorb a lot of abuse.

i think you are confusing "block" with "short block" the stock short block will not handle more than 450ish but the block itself is capable of much much more, like 800-1000 range.
