They're still f-bodies. But the ls1 motor is very impressive.

ORIGINAL: 70 MACH I

I was test driving a '98 Z-28 yesterday for a friend out of state who's looking for one. Truly, a mint Car! 46,000 original miles adult owned, 6 speed, t-tops, nice ride. I was surprised by what it didn't have, for 310 hp. Crazy *****! I wasn't impressed, my little pony pins me in the seat better. It was torquey like a truck, but didn't rev quickly. Granted, it had stock pipes, except a flow muffler, and no mods whatsoever. I'd like to run this guy to see what's up. And BTW, what's this skip shift crap to save gas? You shift the car from first to second and the hand of Satan pulls it into fourth. That would be the first thing I disconnected, what a pain in the ***! Nice car, but I don't think my car is that far (maybe not even behind) behind it in performance. Interesting! I did get a chance to get on it good once, if you ram it into gear it will bypass the skip shift nonsense.

JOHN, The first thing that came in my mind was Code's license plate, LS-WHAT?
First, you cannot go by "how it feels". There are Caddy's that will flat out murder your car, but I bet they don't "feel" as fast. Butt dynos are not accurite. The skip-shift feature was done to avoid a gas guzzler tax and to meet other EPA regs, it only goes into action at less than 20% throttle, you don't have to ram it in gear. It is easy to diaable with a small resistor that is avlible at Radio Shack for about 50 cents.

skip shift turns off after 2k rpm and my g/f had a 02 SS 6spd and it didnt feel all that fast but when i raced any stang (less a s/c on the stangs) they had there *** handed to them. we took that car down to the drags an ran a 13.81 @ 103mph (STOCK) and moast stangs with mods around here run 14.5 @ 94-95mph. so now when im driving my stang around i allways make sure that i have a full bottel of N2O b4 i get on it next to a LS1 [:@]

If the LS 1 Camaro ran 13.8, it ran slow. Stock Mustangs run 14.2 quarters all day long. The '01 Bullitt was touted as doing the quarter in 13.56, beating the '01 Cobra (this was by Mustangs and fast Fords in an article in '01). An LS by the numbers, shoud be in the mid to low 13's stock. I know one thing, I'd love to run one, to see where I fall.

I would just like to point out that the times you read on line or from the manufactuar can be changed ver drastically just by adding a set of slicks and minor suspension mods. I say this because theres a 02 GT down the block that ran a 12.8 @105.6 with full boltons, cams, and slicks.

Did you stay on it until 4th gear? LS1s pull extremely hard in 3rd gear, that is why I ask this. The LS1s power is 1/2 through 2nd+ if it is stock.

i know two guys with stock 98 Z28s and they both ran 14.0 at 100mph and they couldnt do any better after 4 runs which surprised me a lot and my other friend with a full exhuast 02 SS with long tubes ran a best of 13.6 at 102 which was also very strange.

yea when i did drive my friends Z28 it didnt seem that fast but its prolly because it has stock exhuast and is a hell of a lot quiter then mine, but i know even with that bad time of 14.0 he still kills me.

Something isn't right with the car. Even stock it would rip your GT a new cornhole like you wouldn't believe, even with your mods. I had an 02 GT running 13.8@104 mph & my buddies 98 LS1 automatic with just a Flowmaster CB would brutally violate me, regardless of how hard I power shifted.

It'd probably turn out to be a bus-length or more beating up to 120mph. But you seem to already know this.

Butt-dyno's are a joke. My buddy has a 305 Monte Carlo that pins you back and feels like a monster, when in reality it's a 15 second warrior.
