Default Drivetrain question

How is it that we lose more hp than torque between the fly and the wheels

Horsepower isnt really a thing read its a calculation based off torque. A dyno only reads torque and the computer calculates HP from there. We loose torque due to friction in the drivetrain. HP is just calculated off of that.

Yeah I will have to disagree on the horsepower being derived from torque. Horsepower is a unit measurement of how much work could be done over a certain amount of time. Torque is a measurement of rotational force measured in units of foot-pounds.

I think generally the higher the displacement of the engine is, the more torque it will produce. Of course there are exceptions to this such as deisel engines which will always produce more torque than gasoline engines of the same size.

Another reason why I don't believe horsepower depends on torque is because look at the mazda rotary engines. They are tiny, I think theyre 1.3L and they are capable of producing more than 230 horsepower. But look at their torque. It's barely even 160 ft-lbs.
