Default Cat question

My mechanic has told me that one my catalitic converters is starting to go. It's making this awful ratling noise. Can the cats be deleted or will it affect the car?

Thanks!

people put on "off road" midpipes all the time which do not have cats.. but you need to consider this..

1) You will not pass emissions testing... (so if where you live requires emissions testing just replace the cats)
2) it is actually illegal to remove the cats.. I don't have cats and have never been ticketed for it but it can happen.
3) your check engine light will come on
4) your car will start to retard the timing thus loosing some hp.

3 and 4 can be overcome by getting and installing either a mil eliminator or a chip or flash tuner to turn off the rear o2 sensors.

I have the Superchips flash tuner. I do not know if it allows me to turn off my 02 sensor.

Thanks!

you can take your car to ford. cat converters are supposed to be warrantied for 8 years or something like that. something to look into if you want to stay legal.

If you have no emissions laws then ur fine. If you get caught and non of us ever have then its a $200 fine (atleast where im from) but cops cant see up under your car nor will they take the time to so unless you run into a cop that really knows his **** *cough cough* mitch *cough cough* then youll be fine. But i cant legally say go for an off road x pipe for the road. . . See all of us that have Off road x pipes use our mustangs for strickly 4wheeling. Off road use you see (see how my car isnt on the road in the pics!).
