BBK x pipes with stock cat back
I just installed my new bbk off road x pipes with my stock cat back on my 2002 gt ....
The sound is very annoying (like a civic) extremely annoying
Is it normal ?????
If I change my cat back will it still be as bad ?

RE: BBK x pipes with stock cat back
its normal. bbk x pipes kinda suck azz.
what's happening is the exhaust pulses are "bouncing" back when they hit the 2.25" catback - causing the annoying resonance in the x portion of the x pipe.
get you a 2.5" catback of some sort and it'll be better - not fixed completely - but alot better.

not performance wise mind you, just that they have a reputation for doing exactly what you are experiencing.
i know, mine did the same thing. i loved the power on the high end, but the sound pissed me off enough to put the stock unit back on.

I know what you mean dude. I have a BBK off-road X also and it does exactly what you are saying. I also have a Flowmaster American Thunder cat-back. The cat-back doesn't help the resonance you hear. It sounds great when you're accelerating, but as soon as you release the clutch and the engine RPM's drop, it's really annoyingly loud. It's not as bad if you shift at lower RPM's like 2000-2500, but it's just the X-pipe design that causes that. I bought a MAC off-road H-pipe because the sound gets on my nerves, but I haven't decided between the 2 which one I like better. Everybody says an off-road H-pipe sounds best with chambered mufflers, but I really like the way the Flows sound with the X-pipe. One thing about the H-pipe I like though, my car had a better off-idle response than it does with the X, because it would get real squirrelly in 1st and 2nd gears if you punched it from a stop. An H-pipe will really help out your torque curve.
