RE: how to take down an LS1

what would it take to beat an LS1 in the quarter for a 2001 GT. The easiest and cheapest way and no nitrous responses. I also was just thinking simple bolt ons or does it take more than that. In case this helps I ran a 14.3 stock except mufflers and K&N. Since then for extra HP all I have added is an offroad x-pipe.

You should be running atleast a 14 flat in stock form...First work on limiting your wheel spin...you have the mods necessary to beat one in the quarter..

UUHHHH... HUMMMM.... *pulls his hair and screams "NO!!!"*
You cant say that he should be running 14.0 flat in the quarter because all you know is he is setting in the middle of a 120* 100% humidity JUNGLE! Temp, humidity, track temp, elevation and tons of other things are the stuff you need to factor in when doing a 1320 run.
There is no way, even with no wheel spin, are you going to keep up with a stock LS1. I have invested over $4000 just to stand next to one on the highway up to the speed of 140. If you want to beat an LS1 then you will need to invest in a set of cams, a good rear end, port you heads and get bigger stainless steel valves, good cold air intake, better T/B, upgraded plenum (Accufab) and hell, while you're spending all this cash just to beat an LS1 you might as well throw a good S/C on it. All that work you will dust one off pretty good.
There is no way in hell a stock 4.6 will even hang with a stock LS1.
Believe me, I can say this from experience. If you dont know my roommate has a 2002 WS6 with the upgraded LS6 intake.

I very much agree with you on this. Not a chance he'll beat an LS1 with bolt-ons...
I'm looking forward to trying to beat my buddy's 01 Ram Air T/A after I add my supercharger to my (mostly) stock motor. There is no way I would keep up with him right now (all things being equal). But after... I think he'll be sucking Kenne Bell exhaust... [8D]

Man you guys act like LS1's are unbeatable...Trust me they are.....The smart thing for this guy to do is just invest his money on there things...Intake, Gears, and exhaust....Most LS1's with a decent driver will run on average 13.6-13.8 so with those mods you should be good enough...depending on your driving skills.

RE: how to take down an LS1
im glad you posted that DUB, i was about to go sell my GT and just get an LS1. they are fast cars, but not unbeatable. with gears, cold air, and exhaust, i would hope at least i would have a chance against them.

RE: how to take down an LS1
It has nothing to do with exhaust, gears or cold air. Sure that stuff helps but you have to look at the difference in displacement, stroke, bore and for gods sake they come stock with 60+ hp than the 4.6, and 60 is giving it no credit. Thats really underrated. And not to mention that their compression ration is almost 1.0 more than the 4.6!
You see my mods below and thats what it takes me to stay side by side with the WS6 from a roll of 50mph to a finish of 140mph and after 140 he is going to walk off and leave you. I have had plenty of personal experience with the LS1 and im here to tell you that minor bolt ons wont let you walk away from one, EVER!
