i disconnected it pretty quick but something was smoking by the alt. i fix all the blown fuses but the alt. wont charge.one of the tech at my job said that it could have a fuse wire or a fuse. please let me know i need to get this fixed.it a 1996 gt

U might of smoked the alternator 2 or melted the wiring. U should hope u didnt destroy the computer in it. I operate heavy equipment and 1 one techs hooked up the batteries wrong when replacing them and killed the computer and that was $5000 to replace

Check your wires going to the alt and make sure they arent burnt up. Also there is a 20a fuse in the power dist box under the hood that may have blown. If the fuse is ok, then you fried the alt. Good luck.

Uhh, i'm an electrical engineer... i made a electronic scoring system well nevermind... all you need to know was i hooked up my the battery system wrong cause i was drunk; within .5 seconds both chips popped and burnt. Odds arent looking good, does the car have power? Check the fuse i believe its the only 20amp fuse in the box.

I was gonna ask how the hell can you mistake red and black; however I realized i did the same... were you under the influence of alcohol?

Yeah...thats scary. Just hope you didn't fry your ignition system. You probably do need a new alt. though. THINK BEFORE YOU WORK WITH ELECTRICAL!!!!!!!!! I've been zapped with 12v a few times, once on purpose. My autoshop teacher wired a starter to my desk when I fell asleep. Gave me a jump start!
