98 Cobra or 98 SS?

RE: 98 Cobra or 98 SS?
I dunno about holding value, but just FYI I have seen a couple 02 SS/WS6 in the St. Louis paper asking 22,xxx. Thats holding value pretty well.
Sad to say it, but if you have no brand loyalty already, and you are looking for the most bang for your buck, the LS1 comes up way on top here.
BTW, don't pay premium for the SS. You can own a Z that runs exactly the same with basically the exact same parts for far far less.

I kind of agree... dont pay like 18 or 19k for just cause it looks better... granted it looks 10x better with that hood/spoiler/wheels.

JD, you own a camaro. Whats your input here? What do you have done to your SS to make it run 11.8s?
Ive seen 50xxx SSs go for around 14 where im at. I like Z28s, but i want an SS. Looks isnt an issue here, as both cars can look great with the proper taste (which i happen to have the best of). Im mostly looking for speed, look, feel, driveability. Its my DD, and i want a car thats going to be high elevens - deep 12s and still be very streetable.
and yes, im going to test drive them both and ultimately that will be my deciding factor, but i just wanted to see what you guys think. Ive posted in a few forums, and the SS is winning by a landslide.

RE: 98 Cobra or 98 SS?
Performance wise a Z and an SS are the same, don't listen to anyone who says different. Around here a stock 50,000 mile SS will go for about $15,000 give or take $1000. Three years ago I paid $17,500 for mine with 45,000 miles and it ws bone stock (stock cars hold thier value better). I have about $3000 worth of mods to make it run high 11's. I have a cam (along with the correct springs and push rods), 4000 rpm stall, lower control arms, long tubes, off road pipe, BFG dr's, a better maf (which really does nothing), and a an air lid. Best run is a 11.8 at 113.4 mph. I still need to dial in the tune. IMP the car is very streetable adn could be a dd, I choose not to drive it everyday or in the winter because I can, but if I needed to it would be fine.

JD1969 could probably answer this better than me but Ive heard that the camaros are a pain in the *** to work on. Something about the engine being cramped in there. If thats not an issue I say go with the ls1 man. That motor is a phenominal platform, anything that will run 11's NA is just gross. JD's car isnt a fluke either Ive seen a handful of ls1 powered f-bodies run 11's NA. Either way you'll probably be happy so dont fret.

RE: 98 Cobra or 98 SS?
I will admit that at first an LS1 looks like a bitch to work on. Once you know a few tricks they are not that bad. I can change plugs in under 30 minutes, I did my long tubes in 5 hours, I can pull the motor (through the hood, not from under the car like many people say you have to) in about 4 hours. The trick is to remove a few things before trying to get to the plugs or headers, luckly these parts come off pretty easy and don't take much time to do.
