Sounds like a dumb question I know but I'm not the first owner so I guess it could be possible. Anyway as some of you know I've had some computer problems. Today I removed the stock computer and installed my "new" remanufactured puter that I got from Ford. Here's what it looks like....





Here's how the remanned computer looked out of the box (at the top of the computer)

The stock computer had the "chip" where the black plug SHOULD have been. Is that where aftermarket chips are usually plugged in?

I found a small piece of black plastic mounted to the top of the stock puter. I pulled it off and it says Hypertech. Since the fan was not running with the mew computer in I decided to swap it over onto the new comp. So, my question is, Is there a small black chip with the words Hypertech on every Ford EEC or did I have a chip and not know it? Cause if I did, I'm really disappointed in it. lol.

 

what did the chip look like? if its problems it could of been a $5 ebay one[8D]

 

it was just a little piece of black plastic with an aluminum bracket on it. It plugge dinto the hole you see in the picture in my first post. It says HYPERTECH on it. and "1996" which is odd because I have a 97. Anyway It's been on there since I bought the car in '02 cause I have never messed with the computer before. Just wondering if it is indeed a performance chip.

It possibly is. Did you have computer problems then? If so I would have just pulled the chip out and see if it worked alright. I had a chip from diablo come with my supercharger and when I plugged it in, it wouldn't work for sh*it until I unplugged it.

 

if you read my post you'd notice that the fan was not running properly and the idle was real low (500 rpms) so I took out the new ECU. I was about to put the old one back in when I noticed the chip. So.... I swapped the chip from the old puter on the new one and put the new one back in place. Tada! my fan works now and the idle is better but still shakes the car. I did all this cause i got a PCM failure code which was supposedly the cause of my cyl #3 misfire I'm starting to doubt this will help anything...

 

It may be trying to relearn everything and oh my bad for not reading line 2, lol. Have you removed the chip and see how it runs?

 

Where are most chips located anyway? I bought a stang from a guy that claimed it had a superchip to go with the mass air unit that's on it. Where would this "chip" be at?

It's in the pcm unit like the photos above. That unit is located in the right side kick panel.

 

that's what I'm asking...

damnitt dude, it had a low idle and the fan wouldn't come on without it.... geeze.
