i just hit 115000. My valve guides are gone... so frequently tons of blue smoke. This is mainly because the original owner half a$$ed the oil changes... ::sigH::

I'll be gettin a new motor in a year or so

I use to have a 1989 5.0 LX and it had 144k on it. The car was mildly modified with the heads, cams, intake package but it started right up and i had no problems. I know this is off of the 4.6 engine topics but if u upkeep a cars engine, the longevity could pay off for you.

A super charger would probably be reasonable -- as long as you keep the boost on the low side (9 psi or less). The super charger puts the incoming air under pressure greater than atmo -- so you get more air/fuel into the combustion space than you otherwise, and the "strain" builds relatively slowly in comparison to nitrous as well as being less of a heat issue (nitrous oxide in the mix burns hotter than just compressed air/fuel mix).

Now, that being said, anything that produces more horse power is going to put more strain on your engine, more strain on the engine means more likely to fail. If you've maintained your engine to date and you don't go hog wild with the boost, you should be ok. Hopefully, you've got a some coin, super-chargers aren't cheap.

You'll probably want to consider a tuner and re-gearing if you go down the super-charger road. Installing a forced induction unit (super or turbo) is a tricky thing, make sure you get a reputable shop to do it, and invest in some dyno pull tuning.

More bolt ons are always an option and going to be something you can do yourself and put less strain on your engine components, and spend less money with less risk of critical engine failure.

I'm doing suspension, full exhaust (headers, x-pipe, cat-back) and a throttle body on the stock engine in the '01 GT I bought on friday. I'll be building a motor in the spring and that will get a super-charger and a wet nitrous setup.

Again, my opinion and with this and $3 dollars you can get that beer at happy hour; your mileage may vary.
