You would think he knows that since he knows a Mustang is a performance car, huh? LOL

Sorry, had to say something.

I dont agree with 2000Si on most stuff but on this one I'm gonna have to. If your owners manual recommends using 87 then you should probably use that, they put that in their for a reason. All the stuff above it is just overkill, maybe it does keep it cleaner and hey if you got the $ and thats what you want to spend it on by all means go ahead maybe it will help your car but performance wise it aint gonna do crap, until u start getting into the higher hp numbers like 2000Si said.

I think this is really sad, because me and iwrxit can agree that it does. Not only does it say on my tach from the factory PREMIUM GAS ONLY, but it is a requiremnt as a turbo car. Higher octane does create more hp, it may be really small, but since it is a higher octane, it burns at a considerably faster rate. This is why race gas can be so effective in turbo and supercharged categories, and NA categories as well. Like some of yall have said, higher octane does clean the motor and gets rid of engine deposits much easier. This is why they have octane boosters for the little ricers out there. It may only raise your octane by only .1 or .2, but it is a little boost in performance. Everybody here really needs to do their homework before they get drawn into a arguement.

Then why is it that its better burning for the motor? Why is it that when I run 87 that it feels like I have taking a few horses from under the hood? A mustang is a performance car there for it needs "performance" gas.
ha its not better burning. actaully its slower burning. and sorry, a 97 gt isnt a performance car.

Refer to Nomo's above post... and incase you're blind let me re-****ing-iterate this.

HIGHER OCTANE DOES NOT CREATE MORE POWER. You are creating the power from the TURBOCHARGER, NOT THE HIGHER OCTANE!!! That's like me saying my car only makes 160 hp because I have to use at least 91 octane. WROOOOOOOOOOOOONG.
HIGHER OCTANE BURNS SLOWER. That's why it's used for high CR cars, turbo or other FI applications. IT BURNS SLOWER AS TO COUNTER THE EFFECTS OF PINGING/KNOCKING.

Not to mention that if you are suppose to use 87 then using 93 can burn up your O2 sensors and alot of other damage.

It was always explained to me that the gas doesnt burn all the way and that wet gas will end up on the O2 sensors and will burn them out quickly. Is this not a fact?
