Default Whats wrong with the 99 cobras.

As you guys know i have been on a search for quit some time for a replacement to my LX. I found a 1999 cobra with 38k about 5 miles from my house. My only question is why was there no production in 2000. I know there were recalls but what were the most common problems.

They didn't make as much power as they were suppose to. I'm not sure exactly what they changed but I think it was the intake and tune. Either way you should be able to get the vin and contact ford to see if that particular car as the changes

I don't know of any problems with them, and they were made in 2000. The run that was made was exported to Australia. That is about the extent of my knowledge on the subject. Sorry I do not know more.

2000 Cobras do exist, they are called the Cobra R, not to many were made and they were expensive. 99 and 01 cobras were almost the same i beleive, and i do not know of any problems either.

a short run made in 2k and all 100 or so went to the Aussies. From the bits I have read the idea was to prep for I believe the anaversary cobra.

As for problems, not aware of any (but then I don't own one) save that once the Terminator rolled out the cobra fans wanted to go for the power upgrade.

99 cobras were rated at 320hp but when they came out they were dynoing at what looked like 280hp at the crank. the svt chief at the time was really disspointed in them and pulled US production for 2000 and instituted a recall, like said earlier the tune, exhaust, intake maybe even cams - alot to get them to where they should have been. i don't know how much of a difference the recall made as my friend had one at the time and after the recall work didn't feel like the car picked up a real 40hp which is like night and day in any car.

They(99) were recalled because guys in 99 GT's were beating them at the track and they were Dyno'ing @ where the 96-98 Cobras were so people were freaking out. Ford did a recall and relaced the intakes with extrude honed versions and did a more aggressive tune. That recall caused the cancelation of the 00 Cobra so they could fix the flaws...they were gonna do a mid year release but just held it off until 01. The former boss (John Coletti) was a stand up guy who was not happy when his SVT clients were being humiliated by 260hp GT's that is why they had the "Fix"....He didn't have to authorise the recall and i remember reading that Ford wasn't happy with it because they lost alot of money doing it.

Faulty heads. Some of the 99 an 01 had the tick syndrome. Like some of the machs, they have a tick coming from the heads.
