I just cracked my intake for the second time. Went out and bought a typhoon intake. Why would ford make plastic engine parts. WTF

I think one of the ideas was to save weight??

Just another example of ford's awesome engineering.

Did you replace your all plastic intake with another all plastic intake?

The all mighty LSx engines also use the same material for their intakes....its the design not the material.

Plastics are used because they are not as thermally conductive as metal. This provides cooler intake temps than the old Iron intakes. It allso allows engineers to better design the flow path since they can injection mold plastic vs molten steel/metal.

As stated, it's not the material, it's the design or testing to approve the particular design to blame.

is it leaking? usually will crack near the Tstat housing...sometimes even looks like water pump is leaking but its the intake leaking down.

I was wondering if anyone with the plastic intakes still has their plastic intake on the car? I know they were plastic, but did all of them crack by this time???

So id definately have to have a leak for it to be cracked? The coolant in my resivoir is low and looks oily, but I dont think there are any leaks. On the other hand there is some stuff leaking out on the valve covers. I cant tell if its oil or coolant though. Doesnt drip, its like it seeps out but its on the top of the covers...eh, my whole car is a piece of junk...[X(]
