RE: Keeping a possible classic?
Are you talking about your '96?
I'm sure there are LOTS of people who start off with the intentions of doing this. But as time goes on, they run into issues and need money, find a better car, etc....
I do want to keep my 99 though. And assuming nothing comes up (ie a kid or an emergency or somethign) i see no reason I would run into issues.
I got my car for a good price, and the KBB value isnt high enough to bother trading it in, cause i'd get screwed on teh deal. 64K on a 99GT isnt worth **** anymore, though I coudlnt find another one for under 11K
And my car payments are only at 150 a month for 2 more years, so I persnaly see no reason I cant afford to keep mine.
Good luck, I think that it woudl be awesome, in 20 years from now for us to be able to say we've got a 'classic' .. lol..
as for values, , its VERY hard to tell, they made SOOO many more early mustangs than they do in the recetn years, however, these cars will last so much longer, its tough to judge values

It May sound sappy but when i got my GT there was a used 03 for about 6k less but i had to buy the 04 bc my girl was born that year. I also picked the red bc i thought it was more of a girl color then the blue, yellow and black they had. I think it would be cool as hell to hand her the keys to a car that is as old as her when she turns 16, i mean as long as it is still in good shape it would be cool.

It's always fun to dream about doing that, but it's highly unlikely that it would happen. Too many things get in the way. For example, I was saying the same thing about 6months ago. You can see how that one turned out...
As you get better jobs and make more money, your taste in cars will probably change. You'll most likely either upgrade to a better Mustang, or go an entirely different path.
Good luck either way.

its different for everyone and right now i am my plan is to do the same ......in about 2 years (after college) getting a new DD and getting the mustang a place to sit for sometime. The price i would get for the car now wouldnt be worth it to sell in my mind. I dont see any reason i should have to sell.
JUst an example: My aunt drove a 1970-75 Camaro Vert when she was about my age(20). It has been sitting in my uncle garage for over 20 years now and is still is very good condtion, waiting to be restored.
1996 GT Convertable will still draw some attention in 2030

people wanted cars from the muscle car era 10 years after they were made.
nobody wants a 1996 mustang now.

In 2030 its not just b/c its a mustang(96 or w/e), its because it a classic car in great condition
the fact that i was driving it as a DD in 2006 is just a bonus
