Default supercharger questions. please help

i bought a 03 gt about a month ago and i think im gona get a supercharger pretty soon for it but i have alot of questions so any help would be awesome. so far the only mods i have is just a kn filter, an o/r x pipe and flowmaster catback. i was mainly looking into a vortech s trim, but im open to other brands. the car is an every day driver and im in college so im kinda scared of the s/c cause all the probs with them ive read about. so do you guys think it would be a good idea to get one, i have 4 grand to spend on getting one, or should i save some money and just spend 1-2 grand on simple bolt-ons? thanks for the help

nemo, I Where can i get the setup for well under 4...

I got to reading on vortechs site, and i read that your ecu has to be programmed by them for the 99-02 models.

Is this true, or a bunch of ****?

How hard is the feul pump to replace on these gts?

What are the bare essentials to get my car up and running? Im adding that question to this post, as i think its a major one for people whove never had a blower setup.

Im really thinking of doing this, I just want to avoid the "traps" in most of these big time modifications.

your ecu doenst get reprogrammed, they send you a chip. the fuel pump is an easy job. takes me 25 min by myself. expect a few hours if you dont know what your doing.

How much boost can you run with the s trim? Can you change the pullies up to 8-9 PSI, and can the 2v internals take that so is it worth it?

the s trims are rated to 20psi. although, if your going for that much boost, a t trim is the ticket. and yes, the pullies can be changed to any psi desired. im not sure how much boost the stock internals can do. ide say 6-8

I had a supercharged Grand Prix before my GT. If you are going to do 9-10 lb of boost, you are going to be fine with no Intercooler. But for you budget, I would highly recommend an intercooler added to the system for future upgrades.

A supercharger is a motor driven pump that compresses the air in order to increase the pressure hence the density. More oxygen equals more power. The downfall is that the more combustion generates more heat in your engine and you will get some Knock Retard due to uneven temperature in your combustion chamber. The best way to deal with this, other than getting colder plugs, is to get the intercooler. An intercooler is a heat exchanger that greatly reduces the temperature of the engine.

Good luck.
