First time at track 1/4 numbers!
I ran the slow time of 14.659@97.24 mph. I could not keep it from spinning when I hit second. The humidity was at 84%. Elevation is 1002ft. DO I need to short shift going into second for better numbers?

Sounds like you need to work on your clutch work. If you're powershifting....don't. I can either spin my tires into second, bark them, or just go depending on what I do with the clutch. It is fun to see the looks on people's faces when you spin the tires shifting into 3rd around 80mph, but it doesn't seem to really help in the acceleration department much.
Use the springiness in your drivetrain (driveshaft, tranny shafts, axle shafts, etc.) to help push you a little quicker with each shift.

Did you spin? Did the car bog? Did the engine just pull. If the answers are no, no, yes, then you're on the right track. You should still be able to get the clutch out fairly quickly without spinning/bogging. Your suspension will play a large part in your launches. One Mustang mag took a '99 GT and got it into the low 13's with just suspension changes. They hit the 12's with some weight reduction. All with a stock engine with a K&N air filter.

I found better to launch at 3k+ at the track... i dont even have drag radials/slicks... just some decent Z-rated street tires... but when i launched at 3k+ i got 2.2 60's or better.... just takes alot of practice...
