Default mufflers

Does replacing mufflers help performance, or is it just a sound thing? If I have an aftermarket catback (lets say MAC, since I'm not sure.[&:]), does that mean that i have mac mufflers as well as catback pipes? Can I change out the mac mufflers for different brand mufflers? Any general information about this? Thanks everyone.

If you know anything about prochambers also, I've been thinking about those, I wanted to know if they provide better flow besides a better sound of course.

Default RE: mufflers

Replacing your stock mufflers with aftermarket mufflers will help your performance by freeing up your exhaust flow somewhat. Just the mufflers by themselves really wont get you much of a gain and is more just for sound, but when you replace the cat back and mid pipe you can free up about 10hp.

If you have a mac catback, you should have the mac mufflers as well since they are part of the kit.

You can change out the mufflers on your cat back, but you will probably have to buy weld in mufflers and have a shop install them.
