Default K&N filter or CAI?

Should I remove the air silencer and add a K&N filter on my stock intake or would it be worth the money to get a whole new CAI?

If you want cool looks, slightly more performance and an addition to support more intake mods(new TB/Plenum etc) then get a CAI. If you just want a better air filter, then grab a K&N. But for the money, you mind as well knab a CAI since K&N's are kinda expensive about 50 bux ish eh?

How about the C&L, S&B, or JLT CAI.

Just get the K&n drop in. Spend the CAI money on something better. Your not going to gain much becept a louder sucking sound and the cool look.

if your on a tight budget like some of us... do the k&n with silencer delete and save your money for gears or something more useful.

If the silencer delete is removing the rubber piece that goes from the filter can to the fenderwell I would keep that on or at the most trim it so the opening is larger or you will be letting hot underhood air have access to the filter.
I have the JLT CAI and it was one of the best mods I have done. Onother note is that the mods on a 2v will not porduce a quick car and the gain will be minimal. The mods in my sig cost me $2430. and the car dropped from a 14.42 to a best of 13.95 and mph went from 96 to 102.
The JLT CAI reduced the 1/4 time by .15 and added .9mph. I believe it was worth the expense and I had a BBK CAI the JLT replaced. Just to mention that I bought the Mustang in june of this year and it seemed to have the original plugs so I got a set of NGK platinums for $3. each and they dropped my time a tenth! Very nice quality on the JLT and the NGK's come pre gapped with a pencil piont thin center electrode. Easy to change the plugs and there are directions in the sticky on 4.6 modular motors at the start of this forum.
If you are short on cash and are interested in the best bang for the buck send me a PM for info on a Steeda timing adjuster I am not using now. Thanks, Mark

No, the silencer is the piece INSIDE the fender, not the housing around the filter. No matter which you do, K&N CAI or Filter only, remove the silencer. If you get one of the CAI's that go through into the fender (like BBK), then the silencer comes out anyway.....
