Default which gears are better?

Please say why you think one is better than the other. I am looking into getting 4.10s for myself and 3.73s for my bro for his birthday.

There's no big difference. I've heard rumors that motive supplies some of ford's gears. I'm not sure if thats true, but either way, its the install that is important. Take it to someone who knows what they're doing.

I have FRPP 3.73's and still very happy with 80k or so on them. I know the fords are a high quality product but there are just as many people out there who say the same about motive. I say go with the better price between the two. Like II 98 GT II said, the money maker is the install. That's about the only work I don't do myself, Take it to a reputable shop and you'll be fine.

I have Motives and a slight whine, very slight between 40 and 50 mph. I used 85W-90 instead of 85W140 that Ford calls for now. Could have made a difference. Mark

your whine is because of whoever installed them didn't install them properly. motive and frpp gears are made with the same material, and i believe that frpp gears are supplied by motive. I had motive 3.90s in my car and didn't whine one bit, and were very strong gears.

FRPP, Richmond, Motive are all very good gears that are ran in the fastest street/strip cars.

A moron installer will have a better experience getting the correct pinion depth/backlash with the FRPP's than he will with the Motives or Richmonds, but to any EXPERIENCED installer it shouldn't add anymore than 10 minutes to the install, you will just have to be a little more careful when you set it & give a couple rotations & check the backlash again.

I had Motive 4.30's in my 02 GT & they didn't make a single noise. I have a set of Motive 4.10's to put in my Cobra and I'm confident they will be fine too. It's all about the installer..

BTW, how can you say your CAI added .9mph & took off .15 off your ET? With driver error involved, conditions & such, I sure hope you made about 20 passes and averaged out your gains before you go influencing people into believing they can gain almost a full MPH in their trap speed and almost .2 off their ET.... Don't take it personal...but it's statements like this without good information to back it up that helps spread all the poor information on this forum - that so many of us spends hours a week trying to clarify.
