system compatibility with Mach 460
I posted this in the audio/visual electronics section and no one seems to be active over there, maybe you guys can help. Sorry.
I have the mach 460 system, and one of my friends told me today that if I wanted to get a new system such as some subs, an amp, speakers n what not, then if I check somewhere and it has a sticker that says "premium sound system" or "premium" then a shop might have to change some stuff around, or do some extra work to have it installed. He said that goes for all cars. If its "premium" then they have to do some extra stuff to it to make it sound good... whats this all about??
Also, will an aftermarket head unit be able to fit into a mach 460 system unit? I have the 6 CD changer, no cassette.
Thanks everyone!

RE: system compatibility with Mach 460
The Mach 460 has two amps mounted in the back as well as speakers. I beleieve that the head unit has a built in amp and corss over. It is in effect a multi amp system with an active cross over. If the shop you are dealing with knows what they are doing they can subsititute some or all the components.
If they are really dumb they can run all new wires from a new head unit etc.
If you do asearch in goodle under Mach 460 there should be a page that explains how the system is wired and how it works.

Well you can run an aftermarket headunit
they have an adapter for it....dont member the part# but they do make one for the wiring
Also if you wanna keep your headunit and add amps and subs you can do that without changin out the headunit

RE: system compatibility with Mach 460
me and my friend wired a 10in sub and amp into my stock mach460 amps in the trunk. basicaly we spliced the factory wires from the amp into a line out converter for RCA cables. i wired a 4gague wire to the batery to power the amp with a remote wire connected to the accesory fuses so the amp will only turn on when the car is in accesory or on. it has great bass and sounds good, would sound better with a different amp/sub combo. btw i have the 6disk mach460 system.
we used this as a guide and it worked like a charm

ok so you can use a different head unit with the mach 460, I have the split radio and cd player below it, which is the stupidest thing EVERRRRR. do they have a delete kit of anything for the lower part, ie storage pod or somthing of that nature.
