Watch out P, the gear zealots are going to come defend the holy 4.10

Cruising 700 RPM lower in OD was worth it to me for the last (and first) highway trip I made. I think the 3.27 gear that's back there is more than enough... sure you'll have a bit more fun with a 4.10 but with the way the driving is around here, 3.27 is more than enough. When I pick up the terminator I'm keeping it's stock 3.55 too. Idle at 45 MPH is irresistable.

Hey guys yea gears are a great mod, and one of the best. MM&FF said 3.73's are the all around "best" gear, but it's all entirely up to you. But also take into account that it IS RECCOMENDED to also get yourself a gear install kit, so that they may seat correctly, and the old gear kit will be worn to the old gears(3.27). Just some advice, cause thats what I'm doing.

They dont live in MI thats why, they dont understand that on a lot of the freeways people on AVERAGE cruise @ 80+, on 96 average speed is 100 [8D], cruise along at 100 witha 4.10 and lets see how hot your baby gets then, eh.

Pros of a 4.10 - IMO, none.

Cons - No first gear, worse gas milage, increased loss of control in poor weather conditions, more wear and tear on the motor and drivetrain as a whole, shorter tire life (as traction will become an issue witha 4.10).
-P.
funny, my buddies 99 (t-45 not t-3650) had 4.10s in it, first gear, while short, was still there, gas milage, eh 21 on a 150 mile round trip, loss of control, learn how to drive

P-
As far as your point on lack of traction-isn't that going to be an issue with any performance modification of any significant gain? I mean, without supporting suspension mods, and/or sticky tires, FI of any kind is going to create serious traction issues, regardless of gear.

Dude, I knew how to drive before you were a gleam in your daddies eye. Im not saying that loss of control is inevitable but A LOT easier, I only said this because Ive known kids from HS, that wrecked their cars in the snow around here after they got crazy steep gears.
In MA. what is your speed limit on the E-way? Here its 70, which only out of state people do, MI drivers usually drive faster than that, a 4.10 at 90 -100 youd be spinnin 4500 (just a guesstimate), I wanna see 21mpg @ 4500 rpm out of a v-8. And as this guy said he barely goes to the track and usually cruises at 85, 4.10 = poop at 85.

I made 380 miles on a single tank at 100 MPH the entire way, 25.3 MPG... Probably could have gone further too, and at a much more economical speed (55 MPH, or even 70). I think that 21 is a little exaggerated because at 100 I was turning what... 2600 RPM? You turn more than that at 70 with 4.10s... reason enough for me. You can't beat 1900 RPM at 70 MPH with the stock gears.

Yeah, P, I thought it was fast over here on the west coast, when I was in detroit I was on 696 and doing around 100 and people were still flying past me [&:] It's nuts over there

dont guesstimate, at 100 4.10s put you a 3600rpm.
i think 3.73s are best myself.

Our cars can actually spin in first gear without 4.10's.

At the track 4.10's wont benefit you that much unless you have drag radials.
