Default Reliable????

Hey i'm new to the forum. Wanted to say hey and ask a few questions about the 96-98 GT Mustangs. Main question is, are they a reliable? Right now i own a 1996 Eagle talon N/A (mom brought it home one day) and have had nothing but problems, so i'm looking for something more reliable, and faster. Def. getting a 5spd so the questions are about the 5spd models.

So i guess all i have to say is...are these cars reliable?

One in good condition is going to be quite a bit more reliable than what you currently own.

I'm looking at a few right now. One isa 1998 with the rouche package....that has a new motor, clutch, and 101k on the body and trans...to make a long story short somebody took if for a test drive the was way to much fun. Another is a 1998 GT with 78k...looks like it has had a hard life so it's sorta out of the question. And the one other is a 1998 GT convertable 5spd (75k)that i haven't gotten a chance to drive yet...but i don't know about a convertable. Only one i've driven so far is the ragged out one w/78k

I would say just take your time shopping around.I always ask the seller(if it is from a private owner) why they are getting rid of it.I can usually tell if they are BSing and just trying to unload their sh**box on me.Anyway like you posted you can tell 90 percent of the time if they had a hard life.

I know that the 96-98 were real dogs and asthmatic(problems with heads and intake)99 to current there is suppose to be a noticeable difference in power.Other than that I don't know?

Check the rear suspension. Look at if the right rear has more sag in it than the left rear does. If so, you know it has been beat on. The shocks could just be bad, but when shocks go, they both go not just one side will go (unless it has been beat on). Also, check the wheelwell for little rubber pebbles. This will also help to tell if you are getting a car that has had a tough life.

As for reliability, Ford seams to be getting it right. The v-8's seem to be lasting longer and longer.

alright will look for those things converted. Never had thought about being able to tell if a car was beat on by how the suspention is, but it makes good sense. I know the the 96-98 isn't newhere near as fast as the 99up GT, but it's what i can afford and the performance isn't what i'm in love with about the car. It's just how good the car drives and how great the cars sound.
