Default Pinging?

I was going through some of the threads posted in the past couple of days and came across one that was describing the difference between pinging and knocking. Here is a reply that was posted to that thread:

"Knocking is very loud and dull sounding (very heavy sounding), pinging sounds like shaking BB's in a tin can"

My car sounds EXACTLY like BB's in a tin can. This has been heppening since I got my car almost a year ago. So I guess I have a pinging problem. And I don't even know what pinging is. My questions are:

1.) How do I stop it from occuring now, and prevent it from happening in the future?
2.) How serious is it?
3.) Even if fixed, will it prevent me from adding a S/C in the near future?

Sorry I have no advice for you, but that was a reply to my post, so I feel special. Just wanted to add that.

hey, you might wanna up ur gas, that solves it a good 99.1% of the time. I know u dont have a tune, u might wanna get one. but try the gas first, if that dont work, send me a pm and i'll tell u some other stuff to check. My car did the same bs when i first bought. I cleaned the injects, and starting putting 93 in it when i changed my tune, and no more bbs funkin around in my car

ur car may be runnin a lil lean cuz of lack of fuel then. I would check ur fuel filter and other fuel components to make sure they are operating correctly. suprised the higher octane gas didnt solve hte problem

It did seem to do it not as "hard" after the octane increase. Before the higher octane, It was maybe 1000 BB's in a can. After the higher octane, it was maybe 500. Get what I'm saying?

But It didn't completely go away so I figure that wasn't the problem. Then I did the cheapest thing someone could possibly do and switch back 87. Lol. But I stayed with 91 for about three full tanks and It never completely stopped.

I guess I'll up the octane again, and this time for good. But there aren't any performance shops in the Bay Area that I know of. Does anyone know if I took it in to a Ford dealer, would they charge me an arm and leg to check it out and possibly fix it?

Do you have a stock exhaust? If you have an exhaust system on your car is easy to confuse an exhaust leak for pinging.

Yup, stock exhaust. Just weld ins. But the sound is clearly coming from the engine. It's a very distinct noise. It usually only happens while I'm on the throttle at 50 or more% and am under 3K RPM.

I just called the dealer and they said it's serious and they want $116.00 just to check it out!!!... It looks like I have to turn to them as my last resort. I don't want to do that, but I'm not going take this $hit lightly and wait around ... Anyone else have any suggestions that will hopefully save me $116.00..
