Default fuel pump problems

My car was having idle problems like everyone else that has a mustang so everyone told me it was the IAC i replaced that and my car wouldnt start.. so i went a week untill i could get my friend to come over and help me check it out... ok well today we checked for fuel presure with the key in the on position and i had no pressure so i tried to start it and still no pressure... so we checked the fuel shut off button in the trunk and it wasnt triped so we used a volt meter to make sure it wasnt a relay... it wasnt a relay we were getting power to the pump... so i had my friend stand in the back and listen to see if he could hear the pump kick on when i turned the key still nothing so it turns out i need a fuel pump that is what was causing my idle problem too there wasnt consistant fuel pressure...

my question is does anyone on here have a step by step process on replacing the pump? do you have to drop the tank? if anyone has some info, tips, pictures, or step by step please help me out thanks guys!!

John

Dude, it's a breeze. I just replaced my pump.. You'll need some REALLY small socket's though. I ended up using standard sockets...

BUT WAIT!!! Put a new fuel FILTER in and see if that doesn't cure your probs.

Takes 2.35 min. & a HECK of a lot easier than dropping the fuel tank. (ESPECIALLY if you have a bunch of fuel in there!!!)

But if you have to drop the tank...It's weird. There's 3 bolts that hold it up and their all a BITCH to get out. Not that their tough to access, but as their really not supposed to come out, their tough to thread on & off.

Dude, 9.5 out of 10 times it's the fuel filter. Not sure about the '01, but in my '00 I needed a special fuel filter key that cost $5 at Autozone to get the fuel filter off.

I'd bet my $30 to your $10 it's the fuel filter as opposed to the pump...

GL!!!

I had the fuel filter crap out in my 90 lx 5.0 WAYYYYYY back in the day. It was an easy fix. Funny actually, the car was in front of my friends house & I just krept under there and put a new one in & left a huge puddle of gas in the street.

It's gonna take a few sec's to start it though after the new filter get's on there...just keep that in mind...

EDIT: Your MOST LIKELY gonna need that $5 fuel filter tool though. Just tell them at the auto parts store and they'll know what your talking about. You just stick it in there and pull on the fuel line and it's out!!! GL!!!

yea, just disconnect the old one and snap the new one in place, but figuring how to use that stupid tool was more of a headache though you should be done 10 minute or less

"40% better"???

WTF. WHy is it better. Dude go OEM...I'd check e-bay. Lot's of people end up with these item's and can't return them because they were "special order." Trust me, I've got a ford GT fuel pump sitting right next to me cuz I can't return it...

Also...WTF ISN'T THAT FUEL FILTER OFF YET!!!
