yeah or you can buy a rebuilt t56 with everything you need for the swap for 2500 at d&d, but you still need a clutch. I am in the process of doing the swap now

I actually have the same prob. You have a few options. You could go TKO or T56. They are very strong but will require fabbing on your part. I am actually rebuilding my Tranny and getting Spec II clutch and alum. flywheel along w/ MGW shifter. Just do the research and find out what you think would be best for you.
I dont mean to sound like a *** or anything but you dont have to fabricate nothing. Everything bolts right up. With a t56 you dont even need a bell housing, just a driveshaft and cross memeber.
No offense taken at all. Perhaps I wasnt clear enough. In the T56, you have to modify or get a new driveshaft and the mount I believe is farther back on the tranny. I am not POSITIVE about the TKO but I do know you need the bellhousing too. Both you should get a new clutch and flywheel too. Maybe not 'fabbing' persay but more involved. I understand what you are saying.

Oh, and I figure for my stuff, I will run about 1700 for the T45 and goodies. For a base TKO, I am looking at 2500+. There is about a grand difference so that was a factor. Before anyone calls me and idiot hahahaha I am keeping the T45 as well as nonPI but soon ported heads to prove a point about the early NonPI stangs and performance.

Good luck either way you go.

thats cool man I understand where your coming from. When you said fabricate, i thought of cutting and welding and crap. You can easily buy the shorter drive shaft and stuff then bolt it right up
