I am sure someone said this already, but i dont wanna read all the posts just to put my idea out there, ha...
Find a 99 Cobra for around 11k, or maybe even a 97-98 Cobra for under 10k, put a couple grand into it.. getting it running strong then use the rest on college. 4v>2v regardless of the year of the car.

Either a GT or earlier model cobra would be fine, and some go fast products...im in college right now with a completly paid off 99 cobra (paid entirely by me btw)...you'd be in trouble if you had to make payments on it, but i got a part time job and make enough for insurance and gas for the week...so it all works out

get ur mechanic degree and get ase certified it takes about a year and a half if u wanna become a mechanic..thats what i wanna do.

The Cobra idea is a really good one and I actually know a guy that is selling one but, I just don't know about driving a stick with this city's traffic.
