Late '01's have the stronger tranny. It goes like this: '96-early '01: T-45; late '01-current: T3650... Any 4.6 mod motor tranny will bolt up to your car. It's just a matter of wiring that's a pain in the a$$.

That's part of the wiring I'm talking about. If you swap anything but a '96-'98 T45 in your car, you'll have to switch the transmission wiring harness, depending on the trans, the reverse light link (that's easy), and the speedo gear. I think they make plug and play kits for that, though.

99-01.5's had the T-45. 01.5-04 gad the TR3650. Both are crap. T-45's arent very strong, and the TR3650 has synchro issues. I hate my tranny. Every cold morning it grinds like **** and if I put it in neutral while moving (if it is not warmed up) I get this terrible "bad bearing" sound. If you are looking to upgrade your tranny, either get a rebuilt T-5 with all the beefed up internals, or go with a TKO 500 or T-56. You will save money in the longrun going that route.
