Default F-body??

So I know there is a Fox-Body, and that is the older 80's stangs that have that boxy style body. But why do they call them Fox-bodies?? And whats the difference between those and an "F-body". Aren't those Chevy's?

F-body's are what are generally refered to as the Camaro...its just the code name for chevy to replace their previous body style...generally used for 3rd and 4th gen (82-02) from what ive seen...ford just code named their first platform (the 80's mustang) the fox-body because it was supposed to be small and light

F-body refers to Chevrolet Camaro & Pontiac Firebird. Thats what the platform was named by GM. Same goes for the '79-'93 Mustang being called a Fox Body. The Fox Chassis was in use a couple of years before the Mustang also such as the Ford Fairmont and Mercury Zephyr.

Also my moms car being a W-body, Pontiac Grand Prix. The Chevy Monte Carlo and Buick Regal are also W-body.

GM started using this designation in 1967. The body design was actually made for the Nova, which ended up with the platform in 1968 (X-Body), but Chevy was getting its **** handed to them so hard by the Mustang that they pushed the uni-body F/X platform out one year earlier then the Nova to compete. Other then the body and some interior work, and motor options the 1967-69 Camaros (Firebirds as well) and 1968-72 Novas are one in the same.

If you want a real puzzler try to make some people here figure out that

SN-95 = 1994-2004 Mustangs

Some here actually think that " New Edge " is a platform designation.
