how long will a 4.6 last if you barely to moderately put your foot in it

Taking care of your engine will determine it's lifespan more than how hard you drive it as long as you aren't pushing any HP/TQ limits.
You can maintain an engine properly and hammer the hell out of it and see thousands and thousands of miles out of it. But this is a pointless question... Grandmothers driving our cars see engine failures with less than 10k mileage. It happens and there isn't much you can do to prevent it other than do the proper maintnance.

Police ditch their cars at 100,000 miles
Rousch racing rebuild their DOHC at 100,000 miles
Its not just about the engine, suspencion gets old too, tranny, paint.

What do you mean Roush racing rebuild their DOHC at 100,000 miles?

Roush racing school bobba. After 100,000 miles their rebuild engines. Those are heavily maintained engines by the way, stock 2v wont last that long at the track.

Well if your running any car at the track every weekend like a race team does, then what do you expect? Kinda surprised they rebuild it that late - NASCAR basically rebuilds their cars after every race... but he's not asking about a race car. Read his question before you address it. There are people with moderatly modded 4.6s... DOHC, SOHC, PI and nonpi... and they can run strong over 150k miles... if properly maintained... You know the NYC cab drivers get 200k miles out of their engines, and most dont rebuild them, they're maintained for the type of driving.. I know this because my gfather was a NYC cab driver for 40yrs. lol.

Modulars last a long time if maintaned...my friends 97GT is over 275,000 running strong. The NYC Taxi's are getting up to 400,000 miles with the modulars...thats when they are forced to retire them now.

It will last past 100,000, but it will be crap, it will consume more oil, and burn more gas. I know people with 400+ k miles on 4.6, worth it? Hardly, they are pieces of crap and they still baby the motor, its not worth it. Just rebuild or get a new engine at 100,000 if you into performance driving, if not, do it at 200,000 the latest, or get a new car.

Patriot - it depends on how much you maintain it.. and what you're using it for.
I know many 2v and 4v engines with over 200k miles that are blown on the original motors.. and still running VERY strong. not really to hard to find. If you're redlining it every stoplight and changing the oil every 10k miles, and not taking proper care of it... then yeah it wont last a long time, and by the time you hit 100k miles then your 260bhp, or 225 (w/e you have) will be 10% less... but if you take care of it, i've seen many 2v and 4v hit 200k miles and run as strong as they did at 50k miles... Maybe you just need to get out more?
