Default Valve Cover Question *URGENT*

Hey all,
I'm currently doing a PI swap on my 97. I'm putting 2003 PI heads on and I just found out that my valve covers don't fit. I have romeo valve covers, so I'd assume I need windsor. But the thing is that I can only count 12 bolt holes on each head.

The Windsor heads use 14 bolts for the valve covers while the Romeo engines use 11. The 03 heads are romeo Ford only used romeo from 01 up. Your 97 is a windsor so you will need to just to the junk yard and search or you can pay way too much money on the crappy ugly aftermarket ones that mostly leak and don't have baffeling in them.

The valve covers I already have, have 11 as far as I know. I'm gonna go see if I missed any holes.

I have a set of modified valve covers, the place where pcv valve goes has a pipe in it to which you can attach a breather element. They are also painted ford red. A beautiful piece by the way. Let me know how many holes left and right, and Ill tell you if they will fit you. Pictures available if they will fit. Youll love em and I need to sell them too.

LMAO I was freaking out, but I realized my error. There are 2 bolt holes on the front cover and I was counting a bolt hole that wasn't part of it. Anyway it equates to 13 and 14 so I have windsor style heads. Although I thought anything higher that 2001 was Romeo. Was I lied to? Possibly... Either way would they fit your covers patriot? If so I'm not sure if I'm interested in the red but I'd still like to see pics.

his 97 is a Romeo...
96-98 = Romeo
99-00= Windsor
01-04=Romeo

It sounds like you bought some 99-00 windsor heads and were told they were newer then they really are. Not a biggy but you'll need windsor covers and windsor timing cover bolts.

Timing cover bolts? Do I need a new timing cover, or just special bolts?

The timing cover will fit, but you need to use larger size bolts, if I remember correctly, they're #10 instead of #8 bolts. They're the same bolts used on the 2000 or 2001 expedition I think. They go through you timing cover and into the head. Talk to the parts people at Ford. I did the same PI swap on my 96 and used Windsor heads.

Well that's good to know. Where is a good place to get bolts. I need oil pan bolts, header bolts, and maybe a few others I might be missing.

You will need to drill out the timing cover to i think for the new bolts cause they are bigger. No biggy
