Default Engine build

well im getting ready to build my engine and i have few question...the rebuild kit im looking at is forged, but im re using my crank and rods...i will be sendint the crank out of course to be machined. But if im going to re use the crank and rods is it really worth getting forged?I would like to use some spray down the road. Also i have some PI heads that i am P&P and putting a 550 came in it...Thanks for the info.by the way the kit im looking at is re build kit

Depends on how much spray...If its moderate, then dont worry about it. The forged pistons will help. Are you rebuilding because of age or because of a problem? If there was a mechanical flaw, i personally wouldnt reuse any of the components. Its going to be safer to just get new sh*t. If you're gunna spray the hell outta the engine, definitely go full forged. Again, to be safe. I know several other people on here will tell you that you can spray a stock gt block with stock components and be perfectly fine, but i dont risk that kind of stuff when thousands of dollars are involved.

The only reason why the engine went bad was because the guy who set the timing set it wrong and put a valve in my #4 piston...I was looking at trying to get a 200shot in but thats just what i would like.My goal is to put atleast 400 to the wheels.

that kits has an awesome price i would definately buy it but would also invest 300 bucks in a set of forged h-beams rods just why not spend 300 extra while its apart and never have to worry about it again... then you can spray as much as you would like and not worry...i just built my engine i can offer a little advice make sure you take every single bolt off and put it in a little baggy and label it exactly where it goes ...i did this and still i have managed to loose about 9 bolts so far lol that is ashame i have about 15 baggies labeled where each bolt went and i still lost some oh well thats what the dealership and hardware store is for

actually with tha kit you will have to get your block bored .30 over standard bore is 3.552 and that is 3.581 also those bearings are larger thicker bearings so they will have machine the crank from stock size down to match that bearing size....it still a good kit especialy including the gaskets i sent 300 on gaskets and 520 on pistons and rings plus it says that come with oil pump and alot of other good stuff just keep in mind to get the block bored honed decked and then your heads resurfaced and your crank worked your looking a around 600-800 bucks for the machine work then youll have to reassemble the bottom end alone unless you pay for that also which ranges from 250-500 for short block assembly all the prices are on average so dont quote me when its more or less thats the average price i found shopping around

ok another thing to look into is if the crank is fine which i almost quarentee it is and doesnt need to be worked just polished up and balanced i would spend an extra 80 on the fully bearing kit and get standard size thats still cheaper than getting the crank worked and then if something does go wrong with the crank you can get it machined later thats just my opinion if you need help locating any parts or finding good deals lol i just did mine fully forged for about 1600 said and done fully assembled

you can spray around 100 on a stock motor +-25. my friend has a 92 5.0 with 130,000+ miles on it and has been spraying a 125 for about 60,000 of those miles. well, it is i different motor i know. but you get what i mean. i think its retarted to do such a thing. i feel bad saying it but i cant wait till he blows his engine. hes really cocky.
