Default Cobra or Mach 1?

I am looking to get a 2001 Cobra or a 2003 Mach 1. I am looking to get one or the other asap(I will be spending 14-17k) and I would like to get the facts on both vehicles. Thanks for the help and look for ward to posting pics up here on Mustangforums.

Right off the top, I would like to say its gonna be hard, very hard to find a Mach 1 for 17k or cheaper. On avg they're gonna be 19k-21k. Stats on both of them:

Mach 1 - 4v, 305hp, 1/4 times in 13.2-13.4 on avg with a good driver, with a 5spd, autos are about 13.5-13.7.

99 or 01 Cobra - 4v, 305hp, 1/4 times in 13.5-13.7 on avg with a good driver, with a 5spd.

The Cobra has IRS = Independent Rear Suspension, which has a smoother ride, but not the best for drag racing. The Mach 1 has a solid axle, but the compression could pose a problem if you plan on boosting, but its a Mach 1 and can run low 12's with a couple bolt ons and DR's.

The Mach 1 would be a way better buy, but if your looking to buy between 14-17k, than the Cobra would be your car. You can always get a 96-98 Cobra with a solid axle for 8-9k with fairly low miles.

Why do you think the mach 1 is the better buy? Styling or something performance wise other than the rear axle (dont race that much so rear unimportant). What are the differences in the engine (other than 4 valve heads), transmissions, suspensions, and braking, or do you know of a good website I could find out these stats (I looked and couldnt find anything)

My wife just got in a wreck in an '02 gt and we just got a nice check from geico

And here is the poor stang now. My wife cut many .5 lights in that car and is lucky to be alive. She cant wait to get in her new mach or cobra!

Engines are basically the same, I believe the Mach 1's compression ratio is different than the Cobras and the manually tranny Machs have forged cranks I believe. I personally would go with the Mach, only made them in 03 and 04, look better than the Cobras and the shaker hood is amazing.

Both great cars, i would personaly go with the cobra, just for bragging rights. Other than that theyr about the same in performance. Id say Mach wins in looks though

I would go with the mach. With the price range that u are looking for u can find a mach. On the reg. somebody just sold there mach for 13 something. If u look u will find them out there. Plus there is nothing like a sexy shaker.

That should fix your pics for ya. When you type in the link, use img instead of IMG. Shouldn't make a difference, but it does.

As for my opinion on the two... you could probably find each for the price range that your looking at. How important are miles to you? Because you could find one on the lower end of your price range with a higher mileage one. But I would tell most anyone to get a lower mileage one because there's always a good chance that these cars have been beat on pretty good. Looks of a Mach 1 is outstanding and they are the newer cars. As for the 01 Cobra's, great cars too... probably the solid axle vs. the IRS will be a big factor in your choice. Maybe its where I look, but I see more Mach 1's being sold than 01 Cobra's right now. Also for your price range, you could consider a 99 Cobra. Once again a little harder to find for sale but still a nice car.
