Default Block strength?

So I was flippin through some of my mustang mags and I saw a bunch of 4.6 powered cars that had in excess of 600whp. So my question is how much HP can a stock 4.6 block take? i was thinkin I might build one if they handle way more power than a stock block 302.
Thanx,
-P.
PS: Does anyone know of a carb intake for the 4.6?

Well the internals themselves are known to be good until about 450 hp. The bare block is iron and will probably last forever.

302's are iron also, but they come apart @ 500hp. I was just wondering if people that were gettin those HP #'s were using a factory block or an aftermarket block. I was thinkin it would be really cool to make a 600hp carbuerated 4.6 . It would be VERY different thats for sure. Thanx for your reply at any rate.

Scott from VT told me the block is very strong. A properly set up block can handle up to 1000hp.

I was told thats why they went from the 5.0 to the 4.6 is because how much stronger that the block was. I might be wrong but thats what I though they swiched for.

Not sure about the stock block, but the VT Engines Forged Shortblock I got can handle up to 700hp.

I believe Edlebrock has a carbureted version intake coming out also. I know they're working on a new modular intake for the 4.6 though. Victor Jr. SOHC 4.6 intake.

The stock iron blocks are solid for over 1000hp as are the Teksid aluminum blocks.
The only aftermarket modular block made is from SHM and is close to $3000 just for the block.
