today while driving back from class, a clean looking firebird drives past me and as he does, he revs his engine as to ask for a race. now i know that they have more power from the factory and i have no mods besides my o/r pipe, cai, and flowmaster catback (still halfway saved up for a s/c). i still decided to race anyway. at the light, we took off a long stretch of roadway, we were neck and neck from the launch but once he shifted into third he pulled way out in front and i stared at his taillights the rest of the way. it wasnt even close. now my car is an auto and i pretty much knew that i would lose but i just wanted to see for myself. afterwards, we talked and he said his car was an 02 trans am and it was stock. sorry, just had to rant about it.

 

Well it was worth a try.I probably would have done the same thing.

 

damn ls1s....he's got the bigger engine. how many liters are those again?

 

wrong section but... those ls1 are quick, by brother in law has a auto 02 ws6 ram air and that thing never stops pulling all the way to 140. its amazing. oh well. hopefully this will give u even more modivation to get ur s/c. kinda sad had majority of the time we need f/i to beat them.

 

5.7L 350 ci

 

I raced a friend of mine that has an 04 GTO (LS1) with full exhaust and a CAI and I actually hung with him pretty decently. I pulled him in first because of my gears, stayed nose to nose in second, then in third he put about a car length on me by the top of third, he missed fourth so I passed him, but I was suprised at how well I did against him. (his goat dynoed at 358 hp and 382 lb ). The driver can be the equalizer sometimes, even when up against a more powerful car. I believe I was able to hang with him for as long as I did because I was able to nail my shifts.

 

Those T/A's are fast. I have an auto as well. What do any of you think it would take my auto to outrun a newer AUTO T/A? I know a guy who has one, so just wondering.

 

The interesting thing is the automatic (4L60E I think) tranny on the LS1 are about as fast as the manual 6 speeds.., whereas on our cars (new edge GTs) the auto loses a few tenths ET compared to the 5 speed. Their trannies are alot better I think, not to mention the LS1 which is an amazing motor.

I never street race, too dangerous., but if I did I know I'd get spanked by an LS1, probably even the LT1s too.

 

ive beat quite a few ls1's. as a matter of fact i took a ws6 on the interstate the other night. from a 50 roll up to 120. i jumped about a half a car and then we were within a hairs length aprt in the end. and he wasnt stock he had an exhaust and cai. but dont underestimate the ls1. they are beasts especially on the top end. get em on the interstate and they dominate.....most of the time

 

the thing is the power caught me by surprise. at the beginning of the race, i was right there with him and i thought to myself, this really isnt no big deal like everyone says, but once he shifted into third, i was like o s&*t! then i was staring at the ugly rear end. it wasnt depressing, i was actually impressed. made me wish i had the other 2500 to get s/c'ed.
