I dont know, maybe I have 3.73's, maybe I have 3.90's, who knows. I know about the jacking the car up part, just might be awhile til I'm able to jack it up, thats why in my first post, I was asking if there was another way. I know the 4R70W is the AOD from Ford. It has standard or wide, pretty sure mine is probably standard. Hopefully someone can chime in and help me out.

Any idea what the difference is between 4r470w standard and wide in the Transmission Selection box is?
One says 2.84 and the other 2.40.

How do I know which one I have?
I have an automatic 4R70W FWIW

Thanks!

Just jack the car up and save yourself 5 hours of trying to figure it out.

You know there is a way to cheat.. just put a nice long piece of tape on the drive shaft (so you can see when it comes around), and lay onthe ground diagonal facing the car.. and have someone else either idle your car forward for one tire rotation.. If you see it go all the way around 3x and don tsee it again, probably 3.23's. If you see it go 3x and the tape is hanging down a bit still, you have 3.73's.. if it goes around just past 4x, then 4.10's.

No, its not going to be as accurate as if you could sit and watch it from underneith, but it will give you a better general idea. and not require a jack..... but seeing how you have a mustang, you probably should invest in a jack and some stands.. your probably gonna need them when the modding bug hits you [8D]

Use something a little more solid and you can be the cool kid....just like when you had a baseball card in the spokes of your Huffy.

You have an auto or 5spd man? And I'm guessing you were in 4th gear if your an auto, correct?

And to everyone else who helped/tried to help, thanks. As for the others, I dont have access to a jack/jackstands right now, and if everyone would just say yes, or no, the gear calculator does work, than I guess I could assume I have 3.73's, but nobody has said it works for them, and nobody has helped me out whether I have the 4R70W standard, or wide transmission, but I'm guessing standard.

I checked mine. I was cruising at 50mph, under normal driving conditions, just cruising, and my rpms were at about 1900.

Fiad06, if you checked yours let me know, and do you have 4.10's or 3.73's?
Just to let you know, my car is stock 03 automatic with 3.27 and at 50mph in 4th with overdrive on I am getting about 1500 on the factory tach.

The gear calculator shows 1498 so I guess that's correct.

the calculator seems to be pretty spot on. what i think you should do is hold 3K rpms in second and note your speed, then enter it into the calculator and see if it returns the same
