3.73 or 4.10
I want to get new gears i was looking at the 4.10s but this is my daily driver so i want to know if thats to much i dont have sc or nos. I dont know if 3.73 will be much a diffrence though. So which is better for drag and daily driving 3.73 or 4.10.

RE: 3.73 or 4.10
how much do u care about ur gas mileage? and do u do a lot of highway driving? those r the two questions u need to answer. if u dont care much about gas mileage then go ahead and get the 410s. also do u have an auto or 5 speed?

ok. since ur not on the highway a lot then just go with the 410s and dont wind out every gear and ull be fine. ur gas mileage might drop a tad, but thats wut u get when u get new gears. the link below is a gear calcutor, itll tell u wut speed ur engine will be running at for various speeds and gear ratios

RE: 3.73 or 4.10
Can someone explain the difference in gears. I have read every post on these, and I still dont understand what they exactly do. They say 4.10 increase acceleration, but does this sacrifice top speed, and make u run at higher RPM on the freeway. And is putting gears in your mustang alot better than running stock gears. I would like to get some if they increase acceleration but i dont want to sacrifice top speed or alot of gas. I plan on purchasing a S/C in the next 6-8 months, would gears be a good investment, or would i be ok with stock gears.

I was thinking the same thing when I was looking at gears, but then I thought...
1) you bought a v8 mustang
2) regardless of whether you go with 3.73's or 4.10's your gas mileage will suffer, even if just marginally
If you ask me... if you buy gears, I say go with 4.10's, if you're worried about gas mileage, don't buy gears.

LOL ya got the going through gas part down, but my real question is this will put 4.10's in (Seems to be the most popular) sacrifice my top speed. Im talkin top speed like 130-150 max. And do u run at really high RPM's in 5th, like greater than 3000 RPM or close to it. Because i drive on the freeway alot were im from. Thanks

It will change your RPM in your top gear at the same speed, but it will not decrease overall top speed. In fact, you will probably have a higher top speed with a more agressive gear.
Even with 4.10s, your car (or even a full boltons car) does not have enough power to acutally reach redline in 5th gear. You simply run out of power in 5th gear before you reach the RPM limit.
So far as what they do, think of a 10 speed bike. You have 5 rear gears, and 2 front right? The bike is easier to acclerate with the more agressive front gear selected. This is because you have more leverage with the more agressive gear.

ok. enough with the gas mileage crap. i'm guessing everyone in here thus far who mentioned it doesn't even have a gear swap done. we're talking 1 maybe 2MPG difference between 3.73 and 4.10. QUIT PLAYING THE GAS CARD
