Ouch.. sounds like you have gears. For an 00, go get an SCT Xcal2. You can also go to dallasmustang.com and pick up a speedcal, but you would be better off getting a tuner. The speedcal is an easy install (I did a write up on it for this site actualy... its very simple), but if you plan on doing any mods the tuner is a much better investment.

How does the car run? Seem like it takes off like a bat out of hell, or just normal feeling for a car? The guy could have swapped in the old gears..

or I could just be wrong and your speedo is jacked. Lol.

Find out what gear ratio you have and get a speedo recal or tuner as said above. I would get a tuner over the speedcal though.

Jack up the rear end, mark your tire and mark your drive shaft. 1 turn of the tire to how many times your driveshaft turns = your gear ratio. if you turn your tire one time and your ds goes around a little past 4x, then you have 4.10's. Easy enough.

You have a 00 not a 98 right? your screen name keeps messing with my head

Just a fair warning, I know on all stangs up to 97 (and Im pretty sure on the 98's.. thats the year they put in the digital odometer and ive never owned one so dont know for sure), that you HAVE to use a speedcal or speed gear. The speedo is not adjustable with a tuner/flash. You have to hardwire it or change hte gear itself.. and if you go anymore than 3.73's the gears STILL wont be accurate. 99+ you can for sure use a tuner to adjust the speedo though.

speedo gear?
The older style speedometers had a little cog gear that controled it. I dont have it bookmarked anymore or I could show you. Im pretty sure the 23 tooth is the biggest one they make (which is for 3.73's). I tried it out when I had 4.10's in my cobra and it still was way off.

Like I said, 97 back (and I believe 98's) require either a speedo gear or a speedcal. Tuners will NOT change the speedo on them.

*edit Ahh to hell with it, here's ya a link: The t-45 is slightly different than the t-5.. like I said, the 23 tooth was still way off for me.. its listed on here as for 4.10's but on jegs and the brothers performance site it lists it as for 3.73's with a t-45. http://www.steeda.com/products/speed...tion_gears.php
