Default downshifting??

i just got my 01 cobra yesterday and was driving around wit my friend who thinks he knows everything. my other friend has a 95 m3 that i learned stick on so im used to downshifting and etc in the m3. when i got the cobra and was driving with the kid who thinks he knows everything he told me i cant downshift like i did in the bmw because mustangs werent made to downshift. he tells me to go into neutral around turns then estimate what gear i should be in and continue driving? is he right or just out of his mind? cuz i dont understand how a car isnt supposed to downshift.

Don't listen to him, you dont have to be in neutral to go around turns. I usually rev match when i downshift, rev match is where u rev the motor up close to where the rpms will be after the downshift, but u dont have to do that either.

dont listen to them... when i go around turns i leave it in gear or downshift depending on the turn/speed

ok so lets say i want to do a 5th to 3rd shift at like 50mph

i push clutch in and take it out of 5th and put it in netural
then i disengage the clutch and rev it to 2300ish rpm's
push clutch in and put it in 3rd and let clutch out

this will allow for a faster/smoother shift and will be better for the synchros in the tranny because your basically doing there job for them. basicaly when you get good at it you can do it in one quick motion.

You guys are just confusing the OP with all this F&F talk[&:]

Plain and simple it doesn't matter if you throw it in N or downshift. Do what you feel like doing.

Putting it in neutral to go around turns is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. If you ever ride a motorcycle, you'll understand why. By shifting into neutral you lose speed entering the turn and then by selecting the gear after the turn, you lose exit speed.

Always pick a gear to put it into. It makes it a much smoother ride. I had a friend with a Dodge Stratus R/T that did that and it annoyed the hell out of me because after every turn he'd then have to find a gear to select and many times had to then reselect a diff. gear because he picked one too high.
