Default realistic plans for my engine/car...

As much as I would love to have a forged X Y Z and a supercharger etc etc... just not possible now.

My plan for my worn out engine is this. Pull out and set aside. I am thinking about getting a low milage (40k or less) PI engine, and replacing the valve guide seals, valve springs, and camshafts. I am thinking something like a stage 1 to avoid the need for more bottom end strength.

I will also be probably putting in 3.73s (I've decided, lets not discuss gears beyond this) and also to support the cams better, a hand held tuner. I am going to remove the flowmaster weld-ins and get the cat-back kit with some shorty headers.

How many RWHP would this put me at? Roughly what time could I expect with proper conditions? This all will probably happen over the course of next summer and winter with the hardcore track time coming the following year.

Thanks all

George

Pull out your current npi and rebuild it as apposed to getting a PI engine, it maybe more cost effective. As long as the bottom end is sound do the PI swap and be done with it. FRPP heads are about 380 a piece and 180 for the PI intake and of course all the other gaskets and hoses maybe a couple hundred more. Just a thought. With that setup 240-250 RWHP would be a reality.

Definetly get a handheld tuner (SCT Xcalibrator II) and have it dynotuned. You'll be happy you did!

hmmmm.... I'm not too sure about the bottom end. The way it smokes is kind of odd, doens't really point to any one part being the problem. When I did the compression test I got good numbers but they were borderline taking too long to build...

It only smokes when the engine is hot, after an idle and when I hit the gas. Then it billows. It's like the early stages of valve guide seals but I don't know. I don't know if I want to put brand new heads on a bottom end with 115000 miles on it, because with my luck I'll blow a ring or something retarded.

I'd be much happier with a completely fresher engine....

as for the FRPP heads and intake, what all do I have to buy in addition? Like installation kit and such... With the costs you listed, it's almost a grand for just those pieces... I've seen the low milage PI motors for around 1200....

Im in the same position as you Monkey dude my 96 GT has 130k on it and I replaced the intake gaskets when it turned out to be a cracked plastic intake[:@] Plus mine burns oil and smokes every now and then to. So im thinking about either getting rid of it or getting a 04 GT engine as well as my crappy T-45 reverse and 2nd gear are going to and the rear end wines somtimes it has facotry gears in it but im either looking at another stang or a engine and trans and rebuild the rear end later. But I want to sell it and do not at the same time cause Ive already got alot of new parts. But I do not want to do just the swap either with my bottom end having 130k miles.

See here is the story of my life. I see everything for a great price. Problem is i don't have the money. By the fuggin time I have the money, yeah it's long gone.

I'm gonna start a fund called "george's new engine"

oye, I've got about everything else taken care of as far as needs on the car except the engine. It's embarassing and annoying as hell to have blue smoke pluming behind me whenever I take off. And it's not cool addin oil, I don't run sythetic because there's no point if it's gonna burn off expensive oil.

hmmmm

It sounds like you have a soild plan.

I would not bother messing with the valve guides unless you really want to on an engine with 40K or less miles on it.

You will also really need to get a custom tune on the handheld. The handhelds don't come with a tune setup for aftermarket camshafts, but it usually isn't that expensive to get a custom tune.

Thanks man! Well, I just figure I'm going to be replacing the springs..... and the valve guide seal will be RIGHT THERE.... oh and I have two full sets of valve guide seals. One fel pro I got cheap and one motorcraft a tech at work gave me... so I figure If i'm doin the springs i'll do the seals for good measure

as for the tune, I figured I'd get a custom tune and have it dyno tuned for good measure... it's not my DD anymore so I can have a bit more fun with it
