Hey so I have decided to start putting some money into my car and trying to make it faster but my friend says since I have like 80,000 miles on it that it would be a waste of my time. I was under the impression that if you took care of your car that it would last for a long time. Do you guys think that high miles effect performance or that it really doesnt matter.

Not at all, in fact, my last car (1993 Ford Probe GT) had 121,000 miles when I bought it. The previous owner babied it and never took it over 4000 rpm. I rebuilt the top half of the engine, ported and polished (Thermal gaskets matched) Colt cams, chip, CAI/H/E, high flow cat, etc. Got that baby into 13's all motor, got alot of respect as well.

All in all, do a leak down test on it, if there's good pressure, no leaks, well running components, etc. "Do it, to it!"

Hey, over time the piston rings wear a little off the cylinder wall loosening up the engine a little. This causes a slight increase in hp. A well taken car of engine with 80000 miles will respond just as good if not better to mods than a new one. When the engine does go you can always swap the mods over to the new engine. GET THE MODS. It's a win win situation.

yea exactly what they said above. My cobra has 95k on it and im still putting all kinds of money into it. The rings are ok cause im not burning up alot of oil

My car has 70k miles on it and I just put on a blower....car is handeling the power fine and making exactly what it should. As long as you've taken good care of your car it should be good for another 80k at least.

me too... Car has 72,000 on it and the S/c went on at 70,000..

I bought mine with 104 and put pullies, x pipe, cai, tuner on it 115K now no probs after mods

On today's cars with proper maintenance, 80K isn't really "high mileage". I usually stay away from "my friend" and "I know a guy" references. However, I do have a friend with a 4.6 in his 00' GT Stang that has 180K on the Odo. The tranny let go at 110k but other than that, he hasn't had any "major" problems with the car.

My friend is a mechanic for Ford....and he has told me countless times that the GT mustangs rarely come in for anything serious. Theres even a new edge that comes in for oil changes and normal **** like that with 300K on the clock and still original everything. Pretty impressive!
