Trans is Whining.

I don't think it's anything wrong. there is a slight whine you'll hear just from all the various parts rotating around, like the ring and pinion, driveshaft, etc. as long as it doesn't sound like anything is grinding or rubbing. can't describe it, but whining and grinding and rubbing are all distinctly different sounds.
pretty much impossible to figure this out over the internet unless you post a picture of your sister, svtbill.

Maybe its time for a manual swap?

Yayy the little construction guy is back! Welcome man, and nice ride! Those premium wheels are great aren't they? Hope your tranny whine probably isn't anything serious.

..i hope it's not either...man i just spent 20 minutes cleaning those wheels lolhopefully my torque converter isn about to turn my wallet into a crap hole
Jay, SVTBill, I'm not sure if you guys are aware...
But you can take some aircraft paint remover & coat it on the inside of your wheels. There is paint ontop of your entirely chrome wheel. Clean off the remover & you'll have fresh & pretty chrome underneath it...
I plan on starting this project in the next week or two on my Cobra.

hey guys, sorry i havent been posting in 4.6 much lately but, thats all going to change now that i have a reason to be here
, i just bought a 03 GT with 31.7k miles on it. (32.1 now) and, i thought the diff. was whining, ive made a couple of posts about that before on a couple i test drove, most of the mustangs ive test driven have had a little bit of a whine to them, some worse than others. so i thought it was normal because most of them did it, thats why i bought mine, even with the whine, i bought a warranty on it too and i had a shop check it out before i signed the papers. It's an auto BTW.
i hope the car wasnt abused [:@]
thanks guys!

My 2003 GT Auto (4R70W) 18k miles whines as well in first gear, especially when accelerating.
It kind of sounds like the Star Trek "Red Alert" whooping sound.
Sort of like a turbine.
As soon as it shifts to 2nd it's quiet as a mouse and stays that way throughout all the gears.
A local tranny guy, independent shop, said some of them just whine more than others but generally it has no effect on how long it will last.
Torque converter problems generally make noise in all gears and start slipping at higher loads.
Pump problems whine at all speeds.
Crunching/grinding/shifting problems or REALLY LOUD whining are indications of a bad transmission.
I'm also getting a very slight whine/ cyclic whoop whooop whoop noise on decel/coast from 40mph to 30mph only and it will disappear if I lightly touch the gas.
It's very slight and if the heat/blower or radio is on I don't even hear it.
I changed the differential fluid, which looked fine, to Mobil 1 Syn 75w-140 and added 4oz friction modifier and it seems a bit quieter.
More than likely a misadjusted pinion or a noisy bearing or something.
I might go for 3.73's in the springtime so I will get all the bearings etc and have the entire thing rebuilt at that time.
I've driven a number of Ford Mustangs and have come to the conclusion that these cars are just noisy and when it comes to the exhaust system, that's a good thing
