When exactly is a 4.6 "broken in"
I have a 1998 GT and I was wondering when my engine should be properly broken in. When I had my car serviced last I had 99,182 miles on it, and the guy that worked on my car told me that I just broke my engine in and I should have thousands of miles to go. I was wondering if this was true or just some BS some guy from Ford told me. If what he said is true then I got a supercharger to buy.
Your engine may last 70k miles or 270k, its all up to how you maintain it. As far as "broken in" - well he was being somewhat saracastic because Ford considers the break in period to be the first 500 - 5k miles.
You don't even need to break in the more modern engines...just don't beat the **** out of them for the first 500 miles. Most engines are better if you get on it every once and a while when you first get it....go through those gears from the get go.
well, I got the car with 64,000 on it, and I raced the hell out of it when I got it to show it off, now that I had to dump about $3000 into it : Intake Manifold, brakes, radiator, spark plugs, wires, filters, fluid changes, exhaust clamps....the list goes on and on.....*sigh* Now I baby it , and wash it with a diaper. I'm just scared that a engine rebuild is comming...
when an auto transmission shifts slow and when it shifts gears it drops to the lowest gear after shifting to second gear, does that mean its time to rebuild ?
